Bishops Frome Village Centre

Census 2021 is the first to be primarily completed online, and so there is lots of help to make sure that everyone can take part.

There is a local Census Support Service at

Bishops Frome

phone 0333 0064 754 at local rates

between 9am and 5pm

- or we can call you back.

The phone will be diverted if we are not open, but if it is not answered or is engaged please leave a message and we will get back to you soon.

For the first week at least, March 1st to 5th, we will be offering telephone assistance only because of lockdown.

Please call for an appointment for telephone support, once you have received your access code, if you are not confident about completing the form online, or if you do not have the internet or a computer or tablet.

We can also help you complete your questionnaire over the phone .

Our hours in this first week will be

Tuesday 10 - 12 and 3 - 5

Thursday 3 - 5

Saturday 2 - 4

Later on, as restrictions ease and we are nearer to Census Day, we will be opening for longer hours and we will be able to welcome you into the Village Centre, where we can help you complete your questionnaire online, let you use a laptop, or you can bring your own device and use our internet. We can also help you complete your questionnaire on paper, though you may have to order a form in order to do this.

The census survey takes place once every 10 years, giving the most accurate estimate of all the people and households in England and Wales. The survey has been carried out every decade since 1801, with the exception of 1941.

The census supports the local authorities and charities to put services and funding in areas that are most needed. It gives the most accurate and up to date snapshot of residents’ needs and helps with getting funding.

The census will include questions about your sex, age, work, health, education, household size and ethnicity. And, for the first time, there will be a question asking people whether they have served in the armed forces, as well as voluntary questions for those aged 16 and over on sexual orientation and gender identity.

Census day will be on March 21, but households across the country will receive letters with online codes allowing them to take part from early March. It will be the first census managed predominantly online, with households receiving a unique access code, allowing them to complete the questionnaire on their computers, phones, or tablets. However, although online response is encouraged, everyone will have the option to complete a paper form if they wish.

Bishops Frome Village Centre will be operating as a local Census Support Centre to assist residents in completing the survey. We will be offering support from 1 March until 4 May 2021. If you or anyone you know needs assistance completing the census survey, advice is available from a trained census support advisor, over the phone at this stage, and once Covid restrictions are eased you will also be able to book an appointment to come into the Village Centre with your own laptop or tablet or book an appointment to use a Village Centre computer.

There will also be a national contact centre, which can provide a range of different provisions from languages and accessible formats, including large print. Details for this contact centre can be found on your questionnaire pack.

Census results will be anonymised, and personal records will be locked away for 100 years, kept safe for future generations.
